Be Prepared For You and Your Loved Ones Survival During Times of Emergencies

(4) Plastic sheeting and duct tape to set up a shelter-in-place.

Other recommended emergency survival kit items needed include:

(1) Battery-powered or hand-crank radio and extra batteries;
(2) flashlight and extra batteries;
(3) whistle to signal for help;
(4) first aid kit;
(5) moist towelettes and garbage bags for personal sanitation;
(6) wrench or pliers to turn off utilities;
(7) waterproof matches;
(8) paper and pencil; and
(9) books, cards, games or other activities for children.

From this basic basic survival kit, you can add your own personal items, such as:

(1) prescription medications and glasses;
(2) infant formula and diapers;
(3) pet food and extra water for your pet;
(4) important family documents, such as, copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records;
(5) cash;
(6) complete change of clothing; and
(7) feminine supplies and personal hygiene items.
No matter where you live or what you are doing, emergencies can and will happen. Ensure you have a survival kit with enough provisions to sustain each person for a minimum of three days (72) hours. Just as you regularly check your car and your house, you should check your emergency preparedness planning at least every six months.
